Each new data service for a given data collection is initialized with the values of the previous data service for that data collection. If an data collection is copied, the first data service entry is copied along with the basic data collection information.

  1. Data Service Name
  2. Specify a name for this data service and a URL where it is described.

  3. How would you characterize the Data Service?
  4. Check off the format which best characterizes this data service.
Table Mosaic Image Structured Binary Data
Hypermap 2D Image Multiple Data-Type Object
    (such as multi-extension FITS)
    Hypercube Histogram/1D Image Other _________________
    Hyperimage Bit Stream

  5. Data Format/ Header Conventions
  6. A. In what form is the data returned from the data collection? ( ASCII, FITS, VOTable, Web Page, Other )
    B. Which Header Keyword Conventions are followed? ( FITS, HEASARC, FITS-WCS, Other ) URL(s) to convention(s)
    C. Local conventions and URL thereto (all keywords in headers should have an online definition somewhere)
    D. A reference to a sample of this data service.

  7. Typical Parameters (per instrument or configuration)
  8. A. Frequency/wavelength range (this might be same as data collection)
    B. Spatial dimensions
    C. Temporal range of individual data
    D. Polarization (this might be same as Accuracy)
    E. Intensity/Flux (faint and bright limits)

  9. Resolution/Accuracy (per instrument or configuration)
  10. A. Frequency/wavelength
    B. Spatial (e.g., arcmin, arcsec, milliarsec)
    C. Temporal
    D. Polarization
    E. Intensity/Flux

  11. If applicable, how are coordinate systems represented.
  12. - keyword/property (standards: WCS, IRAF)
    - associated extension
    - associated data service
    - other _______________

  13. Which of the following items can be directly extracted from the data service?
  14. Unique ID Units
Data Type Range of legal values
    Dimensionality Object Name(s)

  15. Data Quality
  16. A. Does the data collection have explicit information about data quality?
    B. Is there a per-observation data quality flag?
    C. How should one distinguish between multiple and/or overlapping data sets?

  17. Calibration services
  18. A. Are Calibration services associated with this service? Y/N
    B. Can these calibration services be obtained through the data collection? Y/N/Included
    C. Fill out Data Service questions for each calibration service.

  19. How are Data Uncertainties represented?
  20. They aren't In data file:
    • with data
    • separate extension
    In an associated data service
    __(name)____
    Other

  21. Indicate the level of Data Fidelity
  22. A) What is the current state of this data?
    - raw
    - semi-processed
    - completely processed
    - other ______________
    B) What software and/or processing steps have been used to get to the current state?
    C) What software and/or additional services are needed to process the data to completion?

  23. Observation Provenance
  24. Indicate how the following information is obtained:
    A) Project/Observing Program (ie: Chandra GO Cycle 2, Sloan Survey, VLA NVSS)
    B) Program/Observation subset(ie: HST Deep Field N, Galactic Plane Survey )
Include program name and name of principal investigator
    C) Observation:

  25. Observation Configuration
  26. A. Specific configuration for this data service.
    B. Indicate how the following information is obtained:
    - Target
    - Telescope ( Name, Location )
    - Grating
    - Filters
    - Detector
    - Digitizer
