    About Oak Ridge:
    The Oak Ridge Observatory, in Harvard, Massachusetts, formerly operated the largest optical telescope east of Texas in the U.S. Owned by Harvard University, it was operated by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), part of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) until August 19, 2005.

    Optical Research:
    The Wyeth 61-inch reflector carried out research on stellar radial velocities and the motions of comets and asteroids.

    Radio Research:
    An 84-foot steerable radio telescope was used in Project BETA, a search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
