This telescope was built by Harvard College Observatory and later,
but no longer, operated by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory
(SAO),
in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It was closed on August 19, 2005.
Instrumentation included:
- a CCD camera used for astrometric studies of comets and asteroids
(Marsden 1991, McCrosky 1989), - an
Echelle spectrograph
used for radial velocity studies of stars, including
planet searches,
(Peterson et al. 1993, Geary et al. 1990), (Mazeh, Latham & Stefanik 1996), - an optical search for
extra-terrestrial civilizations, and
- other instruments such as MIT's high-speed photometer
(Peterson et al 1989).
