Tycho-2 Reference Catalog Search Program

WCSTools programs
sty2 finds objects in the Tycho-2 Reference Catalog within a specified region of the sky and lists their sky positions or lists specific entries in that catalog. It is a symbolic link to scat, and is equivalent to running scat -c ty2 ....

By default, only the brightest 100 objects (or closest 100, if the -s p option is used) are returned. Use the -n option to increase this number.

Output is to standard out, unless the -w flag is set, in which case it goes to objectname.tycho2 or search.tycho2.

The Tycho-2 number is the Guide Star region from 0001-9537) followed by the sequence number of the star within the region.

Set the environment variable TY2_PATH to the directory containing the CDROM. If the environment variable is not set, the default is to look at /data/astrocat/tycho2.

If you want to find the Tycho-2 stars in the area covered by an image with a world coordinate system in its header, try imty2,
