MMT and FLWO proposals for January-April 2021 Magellan proposals for January 16-July 15 2021 Deadline: Noon on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 Get next proposal deadlines from the Time Allocation Committee web site |
Investigator's name | Enter the first name first, followed by any middle initial, and then the last name last, i.e., Hillary R. Clinton. |
Co-Investigators' name(s) | Enter the first name first, followed by any middle initial, and then the last name last, i.e., Hillary R. Clinton. Enter all Co-I's on one line, separated by commas. |
Proposal Title | Enter a concise descriptive title for the proposal. The text entered in this field must be TeX-compatible. |
Telescope and Instrument |
Select the telescope and instrument you wish to use in your observing program
from the menu. If you wish to use more than one, fill out separate forms for
each instrument. Indicate any special settings you need in the blank field
after the button.
Click here to find out more about the available instruments. |
Other | Note any special insturment settings for your observation such as filters for images or grating settings for spectrographs. |
Nights Requested | Indicate the number of nights when the moon is down most of the night (Dark), up most of the night (Bright), and in between (Gray). Partial nights may be specified as 6.5, for example. Plese set unwanted types of nights to zero. |
Queued Observing? | Select Yes, if you wish your program observations to be made in a queue by a remote observer, or No, if you intend to travel to the telescope to make your own observations. If you are requesting queued observing, include your home telephone number. |
Term? | Select the duration and/or type of your observing program. Long indicates that your program will last more than one trimester. Select Long/Initial if this is a new program, and Long/Cont if it is an ongoing program. Select Short if this program will be completed with one trimester of successful observations and Engineering if you are proposing to test an instrument. Select Additional if your program did not receive enough time due to weather or other problems to be completed. |
Student Project? | Indicate whether this proposal is part of your PhD thesis work or a student research project by selecting the appropriate response. |
Optimum Dates |
Enter the optimal date ranges using two
dash-separated dates with 3-letter abbreviations for the month
(Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec)
followed by the day. For example: "Feb 15-Apr 23".
We appreciate your help in not using vague range specifications
like "June dark run" or "mid-March" which will require human
intervention.
If you need to enter two or more ranges of optimal dates for a single observing run, separate the ranges by commas. For example: "Oct 7-Nov 24, Jan 7-Jan 31". It is not necessary to give date ranges based on lunar phase information. For instance, if you wish to observe an object in March through May within five days of new moon, you simply select dark time and "Mar 1 - May 31" for the date range instead of multiple shorter date ranges. |
Acceptable Dates | Dates when your run can take place, though you would prefer other days. |
Dates you cannot use for non-astronomical reasons | Please give the dates that you cannot use for non-astronomical reasons (i.e., other than moon phase or when your object is up) in the field provided. Please be brief - you are limited to this one line. It would be useful to our schedulers if you noted here that there are potential conflicts with other proposals. |
Targets | Describe the rough number and position and magnitude range of the objects in your observing program. Pleas specify the right ascension range in hours and the declination range in degrees. You will need to provide a detailed list before they can actually be observed. You may want to add such a list to your scientific justification if there aren't very many objects. |
If you have problems, do not get discouraged. Contact
the Telescope Data Center Staff,
and we will try to assist you.
