getfits
Extract FITS Image from FITS or IRAF Image

getfits creates a FITS image from a section of a larger FITS or IRAF image. No rotation or reflection or resolution changing is done, so the process is pretty fast. Only the header and the necessary pixels are read from the original image, so memory is minimized, but if very many rows are read, there could be a lot of disk I/O operations. If there is a world coordinate system (WCS) in the original image, it is preserved. A second WCS, with a suffix of P on the keywords, is added to the header to relate pixel positions in the new file to those of the original file.
