sact
ACT Reference Catalog Search Program

WCSTools programs
sact finds objects in the ACT Reference Catalog within a specified region of the sky and lists their sky positions or lists specific entries in that catalog. It is a symbolic link to scat, and is equivalent to running scat -c act ....

By default, only the brightest 100 objects (or closest 100, if the -s p option is used) are returned. Use the -n option to increase this number.

Output is to standard out, unless the -w flag is set, in which case it goes to objectname.usa1 or search.usa1. It is somewhat similar to RGSC, which can search from lists of coordinates but cannot sort the output. The ACT number is the zone (right ascension as hhmm from 0000-2330) followed by the sequence number of the star within the RA-sorted zone. This number may change with successive releases of the ACT catalog.

Set the environment variable ACT_PATH to the directory containing the CDROM. If the environment variable is not set, the default is to look at /data/act.
