The Oak Ridge Observatory in Harvard, Massachusetts, is operated by
the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory
(SAO),
part of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
(CfA) in Cambridge,
Massachusetts. It has the following facilities:
- Wyeth 61-inch reflector which carries out
research on stellar radial velocities and the motions of comets and asteroids,
- Sky patrol cameras which are used for astrometric studies,
- 84-foot, steerable radio telescope which is now
being used in Project BETA, a search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
