Abstract

We propose to use FAST Spectrograph on 60-inch telescope in Mt. Hopkins to measure the velocities of 25 galaxies with bJ - R = 1.2 for these bright cluster galaxies. Thus, all targets are brighter than ~ 17.3 mag in R band. Depending on the magnitude, we expect to spend 8 - 30 minutes on each galaxy. The best observing time is the end of July (dark night, good visibility of A2384 & before the shutdown of the telescope). The airmass ranges from 1.6 to 2.0. We expect to find 15-20 galaxies belonging to A2384 and obtain their velocities. This will enable us to derive the velocity dispersion of the cluster, examine the velocity distribution and understand the dynamics of the cluster combining with the X-ray data. For two bright galaxies with X-ray emission, we also can understand their nature. This will be part of Ming Sun's Thesis project.
