DDA Membership

AAS Membership

Are you a member of the American Astronomical Society? If not, you can find out how to join by going to the AAS Membership web page. AAS membership includes the option of joining any of the AAS Divisions. You may be eligible to become an Affiliate Member of the DDA.

Regular DDA Membership

If you are a member of the American Astronomical Society, the DDA membership fee is $10.00 (unless you are an AAS Emeritus member), and you may become a regular member of the DDA by completing the following two steps:

Step 1. Payment.
Either check the appropriate box on your annual AAS membership invoice, or send a payment of $10.00 to the AAS and specify that it's for DDA membership. You can pay by MC, VISA, AMEX, or a check drawn on a U.S. bank. Send your name, address information (including email address and phone number, if possible), and payment to the AAS at

    American Astronomical Society
    Membership Department
2000 Florida Avenue, NW, Suite 300
    Washington, DC 20009-1231
If paying by credit card, please include your credit card number and expiration date. If paying by credit card, you also have the choice of sending your information to the AAS via fax, at (202) 588-1351, or via email.

Whichever option you choose, do not forget to specify that you are requesting regular DDA membership!

Step 2. Notify the DDA.
Email the DDA Secretary. Please send your name and address information (including email address) so that you can be immediately added to the DDA's local database for mailings and notifications.

Emeritus DDA Membership

If you are an Emeritus member of the AAS, your DDA dues are waived. However, please notify both the AAS and the DDA Secretary of your decision to join the DDA. To the DDA Secretary, please be sure to include your name and address information (including email address) so that you can be immediately added to the DDA's local database for mailings and notifications.

Affiliate DDA Membership

If you are not a member of the AAS but are a member of another professional society (e.g. AMS, IAU, AAAS, AGU), then you may become an affiliate member of the DDA. What is the difference between an affiliate member and a regular member? By design, very little: affiliate members have all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of regular members, except that they may not hold any DDA office. Also, the affiliate membership fee is higher ($15.00 instead of $10.00), due to costs of extra administration. The intent of affiliate membership is to provide a means for researchers who belong to professional societies other than the AAS and with interests related to dynamical astronomy to join the DDA.

To become an affiliate member of the DDA, you must complete the following two steps:

Step 1. Fill out application form.
You need to fill out the affiliate membership application form. It must be signed by two regular members of the DDA. Return your completed form to the DDA Secretary:

   Dr. Sethanne Howard
   ATTN: DDA Membership
   5526 Green Dory Lane
   Columbia, MD 21044
You can also email the scanned and signed application to the DDA Secretary, who will inform both you and the AAS of your membership approval, whereupon you may proceed to the next step.

Step 2. Payment.
Same as regular members Step 1, but the fee for affiliate membership is $15.00, and please specify that you are requesting affiliate DDA membership. You must complete the affiliate membership application form and be approved before sending your fee to the AAS. (The DDA Secretary will contact you upon approval.)
